A True Musician at Heart
Liz Wojtal (pronounced voy-tall) got her start leading her hometown church folk group in Verona, NJ, then started writing her own music. On her career as a folk musician, she said, “I was inspired by singers like Joni Mitchell, James Taylor, The Eagles, Neil Young, CSN, and Carole King.” The youngest of 12 children, Liz grew up surrounded by an eclectic array of music. While her day job has included everything from the dean of students at Staten Island Academy to her current position with the New York City Department of Education, her passion has been performing live music as part of a classic rock band.
Rooted in Classic Rock
Reminiscent of pioneering female musicians such as Joan Baez, Judy Collins, and, of course, Joni Mitchell, Liz’s music is earnest, fresh, and simple. With smooth melodies, it often reflects the importance of family and friends. In 1999, she released her first album, “Missing Peace,” and followed it up with “Better Days” in 2002.
An Enthralling Live Performer
A consummate performer and crowd-pleaser, Liz has played many venues in the New York City area, including numerous engagements at the famous Stone Pony. One of these performances was where she and her band, Next of Kin, opened for the legendary 60s group Vanilla Fudge. In June 2008, Liz Wojtal & Next of Kin won the “Excellence in Performance" Award from COASHI (Staten Island Council on the Arts and Humanities). Liz is currently working on her third album and performs regularly in the New York tri-state area.
